Welcome To the City Pub Company (East) Plc
The City Pub Company (East) Plc is a high quality and successful pub business founded in December 2011 by the established industry entrepreneurs David Bruce, Clive Watson and John Roberts. The business operates a portfolio of distinctive high quality pubs in affluent cities and major provincial towns in the South East: Oxford, Cambridge, Norwich and some delightful parts of London.
The team already has an excellent track record. In 2001, David Bruce and Clive Watson created the Capital Pub Company, which they sold in 2011 to Greene King for an enterprise value of £93m. The City Pub Company (East) Plc has a ‘sister’ company, The City Pub Company (West) Plc. Both have been set up under the Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) in order to ensure tax efficient returns to our investors. We have successfully raised a total of £13.9m for The City Pub Company (East) Plc and the same amount for The City Pub Company (West) Plc following four oversubscribed fund raising rounds, the last of which was completed in December 2013. Further funds have been raised in 2015 via Convertible Preference Shares, raising an additional £4.9m per company.
Each Company is run separately with its own management team, and each has a number of pubs with distinctively different retail offers. These are united by a passion for high retail standards and locally sourced ales (some of which are brewed on the premises), ciders, wines and delicious fresh food. The City Pub Company (East) Plc team is led by the very experienced Chief Executive Rupert Clark, formerly with the Capital Pub Company.
Our portfolio of Pubs
The City Pub Company (East) Plc has a growing portfolio of thirteen wonderful pubs. In London, we are delighted to have six great pubs including a very iconic pub with a wonderful garden and private rooms in Chelsea; The Phene, the famous Daly's Wine Bar on The Strand opposite the Royal Courts of Justice, and next door in Essex Street, is the Temple Brew House with its own micro-brewery and a broad selection of beers and fresh food. More recently, we were delighted to acquire the Nell Gwynne on the Strand near Covent Garden, the Cock & Bottle, a wonderful two floor Victorian pub in Notting Hill and in 2016 the classic Cat & Mutton in Hackney in East London.
We also have three excellent pubs in Cambridge; The Mill, a great craft beer pub by the Mill Lane punting station, the Cambridge Brew House, a magnificent brew pub over two floors on King Street, and more recently we converted what was formerly the oldest bicycle shop in England into a delightful all day craft beer bar and brasserie, The Old Bicycle Shop on Regent Steet - all in the heart of the city. In Oxford we have the St Aldate's Tavern, a very characteful pub with large upstairs function room, and more recently we opened the George Street Social, a jazzy coffee, craft beer and canteen bar. Furthermore, in Norwich we have the magnificent Georgian Town House, with a fantastic bar, dining room and delightful large garden, and we recently added seventeen boutique bedrooms here too. In 2015 we proudly opened the St Andrews Brew House in the heart of the city, combining a micro-brewery, smoke house and great pub all in one.
